Within 2 months of joining, we ask that each member serve on at least one of the following committees, become a committee chairperson, or become a volunteer available to all committees. Each committee is outlined below.
Communications
Ensure the flow of information between members and committees is timely and relevant. Duties would include setting up the Evite for scheduled events, maintaining the email list for the chapter, assisting the Newsletter committee with distribution lists, maintaining the calendar on the chapter’s Yahoo! Group and maintaining the MMLV website.
Community Outreach:
Identify and plan community service projects that are in line with MMLV’s mission and purpose. At least two initiatives should be geared toward the Mocha Moms, Inc. community service initiative:
- Closing the Gap in Minority Health
- Prosperity and Achievement
Fundraising:
This committee is responsible for raising funds to support the activities of MMLV. Your success as a part of the fund-raising team is sure to be rewarding as the growth of our treasury will enable us to increase the quality and quantity of MMLV-sponsored events.
Newsletter:
Oversee the development of the MMLV semi-annual newsletter. Work with the committee and membership to develop editorial content. Coordinate the production and distribution of the newsletter.
Playgroup:
Coordinate quarterly children’s outings & organize activities for children who attend support group meetings.
Public Relations:
Maximize internal and external communications in order to increase visibility of the Chapter and its accomplishments and activities. Handle media coverage and advertising, ensuring accuracy of media exposure, produces/revises press kits and press releases for the Chapter, and maintains contact with national media officer. The PR Committee works with other committees to ensure proper coverage of events and activities and the effectiveness of all communication materials and methods of distribution.
Social Hospitality:
Coordinate all social activities for the year such as Respite Care, Easter Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Picking, Moms Night Out/In (MNO/MNI), Couples Night Out/In (CNO), Mother’s Day Tea, Family Picnic and the Holiday Celebration. Work with the Executive Committee to set guidelines for activities.
Membership/Welcoming:
This committee recruits new members by publicizing MMLV in the community and inviting prospects to attend activities on a trial basis. It maintains the prospect list and follows up on information collected via member referral, email, Yahoo! Group, website requests and meeting/event sign-in sheets. Once a prospect expresses the interest to join, the committee guides her through the application process. Then it orients her to what is expected of her and all that MMLV offers. This committee works with the Executive Committee to refine the new member protocol including new member materials and orientation.
