Lehigh Valley Chapter

Filing the void in the Lehigh Valley Area

The Lehigh Valley Chapter was established in 2004 by a very determined mom who recently moved to the area from the Mid-West. Aleisha Fuller-Moore, who experienced Mocha Moms in her former town, was highly interested in making some of the same types of connections with stay-at-home mothers of color in the Lehigh Valley.

This mom then recruited one of the chapter’s chartering members at her church, yet another in the supermarket, and yet another in her very own neighborhood. All four moms had children who were about two years old and agreed on the need for fellowship with other stay-at-home mothers of color. As a result, The Lehigh Valley Chapter was chartered in April 2004 by the chartering members Aleisha Fuller-Moore, Sonya Harris, Diane Mitchell and Fatoumata Yapo.

Shortly after being chartered, the Lehigh Valley Chapter saw a steady growth of moms who were looking for friendships, bonds and playmates for their children. A number of moms who came on board in the beginning are still with the chapter today and are a part of the core group of women who have continued to keep us going over the years.

Our chapter serves as an extended family for moms who move to the Lehigh Valley and are looking for a sense of community and familiarity for themselves and their families. Most of the moms in our chapter are not native to the Lehigh Valley and always find solace connecting with our group. Our goal is to provide the same feeling of “home” for all our new members that join in the coming years.

As a result of the growing multicultural population in the area, the Lehigh Valley Chapter has expanded its recruitment focus to include multicultural moms and those with multicultural children. The chapter’s 2010 tagline “The Premier Support Group for Multicultural Moms & Moms of Multicultural Children” supports families of color as well as blended families. This new focus takes Aleisha’s vision to the next level for decades to come.

The Lehigh Valley Chapter thanks Aleisha for starting our journey!
