What is Mocha Moms, Inc.?

Mocha Moms, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.  Mocha Moms, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, socio-economic level, education, employment status or religion. Mocha Moms, Inc. is for all mothers…working mothers and stay-at-home mother alike. Anyone who supports the mission and purpose of Mocha Moms, Inc. is welcome to join.

Our Mission and Purpose

Mocha Moms, Inc. was established in 1997 as a nationwide support group for at-home mothers of color. These women had chosen to modify or eliminate employment outside the home in order to devote more time to their families.

Today, in the current economy, while the majority of our members are still at-home moms, many have home-based businesses, consult or freelance from home, work outside the home on a full-time, part-time, or flex-time basis. Our goal is to support all mothers in their journey of parenthood. We will never pass judgment on mothers who choose to make or are forced to make different employment decisions to support their families.

The primary mission of Mocha Moms, Inc. is to support and encourage women who are making parenting a priority in this season in their lives. Mocha Moms, Inc. serves as an advocate for at-home mothers of color and encourages the spirit of community activism within its membership.

Mocha Moms, Inc. is essential because historically, mothers of color, particularly African-American mothers, have not had the opportunity to devote a significant amount of time caring for their own families. In fact, many people believe that African-American two-parent families with stay-at-home mothers do not even exist.

Mocha Moms, Inc. exisits, in part, to set the record straight. Families of color are making great sacrifices in order to provide their children with the best care available – mother care. Further, they are doing so with little support from society at-large and sometimes without the approval and understanding of members of their own families.
